Too long, didn't read version:
Nutrition: good balance of protein vs. carbs Texture & Consistency: fairly thick, reasonable consistency. Easy blend. Very filling. Flavour: Good range. Chocolate has an aftertaste of coconut. Price: Does seem expensive, but shake for shake reasonably comparable with other brands --- The long version: Just tried PHD for the first time after deciding that I really don't like Promax Diet, and having been advised that EAS is discontinuing in the UK. Good opportunity to try something different! So, first things first, the nutritional balance: At first glance, this seems a fairly similar mix to Promax in terms of protein vs. carbs, however as it's a slightly smaller portion size PHD is actually higher in protein per gram, and slightly lower in carbs. In my book, that's a plus; your mileage may vary! Texture-wise, this was really good - came up nice and thick, no lumps, and blended quickly and easily. Very easy to drink, although strangely enough it was ridiculously filling. It did take me half an hour (whilst walking home from the gym), to finish off one shake simply because my stomach wouldn't let me go any faster. I don't think that's a bad thing as obviously if you're going to use this as a MRP, having something filling is really handy. Flavour-wise, I've only tried the chocolate so far, and have to admit I'd be wary of buying the others without finding somewhere on the high street to try first (simply because at £50 a tub, this is too expensive to risk buying a flavour you hate). However, there is a really good range of flavours - nice to see something a bit different rather than just chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. The Belgian chocolate flavour is good - nice and chocolatey, not too sweet, however does have an aftershot of (weirdly) coconut - unexpected enough for me that it did take me a full 30 minutes to figure out what that really familiar but definitely not-chocolate flavour was! So if you like Bounty bars, this is the product for you. If you hate coconut, probably not so. Pricewise, PHD does actually feel pretty expensive. The more savvy among you will be whipping your calculators out at this point (as in fact I did) and finding that shake for shake, this is actually cheaper than some of the other brands out there and roughly comparable with others. Overall, a really good product, I'm really pleased with it! |
